The world's most powerful camera

3.2 gigapixel camera will be installed at the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope in Chile. To show a picture taken by her, needed 1500 HD TV screen. The device weighs 3 tons and is the size of a small car. With these capacities telescope can observe more galaxies than people on Earth.
Powerful camera will as heart for of the Big Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), which is just being built and should begin operation in 2022. It will take off the entire southern part of the sky from the mountain Gray Pechon, a height of almost 2700 m. The camera allows to make the most extensive, deep and fast shooting, fixing the maximum possible number of stars and galaxies.
Especially for the construction camera of a huge telescope was equipped a two-story room with an area of ??185 sq.m. LSST itself will generate a huge archive of data – about 6 million gigabytes a year – the equivalent of approximately 800,000 images on a conventional 8-megapixel digital camera.
These data will help astronomers better explore the universe and discover some of the mysteries that are still not solved: for example, dark matter and dark energy. In addition, scientists will be able to study the formation of galaxies in more detail, and the formation of stars and track potentially hazardous asteroids.
